Screening and Vetting Process
On August 29, 2021, President Biden directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to lead the implementation of ongoing efforts across the federal government to support vulnerable Afghans as they safely resettle in the United States. These coordinated efforts are known as Operation Allies Welcome. This resource provides information on Operation Allies Welcome and its operational phases, including screening and vetting of Afghans prior to arrival to the U.S., initial immigration processing, COVID-19 protocols, and additional medical services, as well as guidance on federal housing assistance available to Afghan evacuees.
